Terms of sale

Last updated: October 2026

1. About these terms

These terms apply when you buy from Pooil Vaaish Engraving, operated by Rosemary Glassey trading as Pooil Vaaish Engraving, based in the Isle of Man. You can contact us at hello@pooilvaaish.im or on 07624 495664.

They cover QuickSigns and the Christmas Collection bought on this website, and give the basics for bespoke work. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.

2. Prices and payment

  • All prices are in pounds sterling. We are not VAT registered, so no VAT is added.
  • QuickSigns: house numbers £25, house signs £50. Invisible fixings are £8 extra.
  • Online orders are paid in full at checkout through PayPal, by card or with a PayPal account.
  • In person, we accept card payments through SumUp.
  • Your order is accepted when we confirm it by email.

3. QuickSigns: how it works

  1. You choose a design, give us your wording and pay online.
  2. We lay out your wording with care and email you at least three numbered visuals.
  3. You reply with the number you'd like.
  4. We make your sign and let you know when it's ready.

Your visuals. QuickSigns are a choice between the visuals we prepare for you, which is what keeps them quick and affordable. If you'd like something different, such as another layout, size or design, a bespoke sign is the better fit, and we'll be happy to quote.

Wording. QuickSigns are made for a house name or number, with a street or house name alongside it if you like. We'll lay out your wording on one or two lines, whichever looks best. Longer wording is better suited to a bespoke sign, and we'll be happy to quote.

Spelling. Please check your wording carefully at checkout and on your visuals. We'll always correct a spelling mistake before we make your sign. We make your sign exactly as shown on the visual you choose, so once you've chosen, we can't change the wording without making a new sign.

Timing. Your sign will be ready within three working days of you choosing your visual. Working days are Monday to Friday, excluding Isle of Man public holidays.

Fixings. QuickSigns come pre-drilled, with wall plugs, screws, washers and screw caps. If you choose invisible fixings, these are fitted to the back of your sign and left to set overnight. The pictures on our website show fixing holes; a sign with invisible fixings won't have them.

4. Christmas Collection

Christmas Collection items are bought and paid for online. Where an item is personalised, we'll send you a proof to check before we make it. Orders are collected from our studio, or from our weekly collection point in Ramsey (see section 5). The last order date for Christmas is Thursday 17 December.

5. Collection

  • Orders are collected free of charge, either from our studio by appointment or from our weekly collection point in Ramsey. We'll be in touch to arrange it.
  • We don't offer a delivery service.
  • Please collect within 30 days of us telling you your order is ready, or let us know if you need longer.

6. Changing your mind

Because QuickSigns and personalised Christmas items are made to your own wording, the usual right to cancel an online order does not apply once we have started work on your order. That's also what allows us to have your sign ready within three working days. If you change your mind before we've started your visuals, contact us straight away.

7. Natural stone

Slate and stone are natural materials. Colour, texture, markings and edges vary from piece to piece, and your sign or gift may differ slightly from the pictures on our website. This natural character is part of the appeal and is not a fault.

8. If something's wrong

If your order is damaged, faulty or not made as shown on the visual or proof you approved, please tell us within 14 days of collection. We'll put it right by repairing or remaking it, or by giving you a refund if that isn't possible. This doesn't affect your legal rights.

9. Fitting your sign

Unless we've agreed to fit it for you, you're responsible for fitting your sign safely and securely, using fixings suitable for your wall or post. We're not responsible for damage caused while a sign is being fitted, or by fixings other than those we supply, except where the law says otherwise.

We can fit bespoke signs by arrangement, quoted separately. We don't usually fit QuickSigns, as that would take away the speed that makes them a QuickSign, but ask if you need help and we'll quote.

10. Bespoke work

Bespoke signs, gifts and awards are priced individually, and are not bought through this website. Your quote sets out what we'll make, the price and how to pay. Most orders are invoiced once you've confirmed them, and we start work when the invoice is paid. Larger orders, or those that need specially bought-in stone, may need a deposit, which will be shown on your quote.

11. Our designs

Our own designs, including our interpretations of traditional and historical Manx and Celtic designs, the visuals we prepare for you and all photographs on this website are protected by copyright and belong to Rosie Glassey trading as Pooil Vaaish Engraving. Some designs include artwork we use under licence.

Buying a piece from us gives you the piece, not the right to reproduce its design. You may not copy, trace, adapt or reproduce any of our designs, visuals or photographs, or ask anyone else to make them, without our written permission. We act on unauthorised use, including reporting it to online marketplaces and social media platforms.

12. Using this website

Please use this website lawfully. We aim to keep the information on it accurate, but we can't guarantee that it will always be available or error-free, and we may update it from time to time. Links to other websites are provided for convenience; we're not responsible for their content.

13. Our responsibility to you

We're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so.

14. Your information

We use your information as set out in our privacy policy.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Isle of Man. Any dispute will be dealt with by the Isle of Man courts, subject to any rights that consumer law gives you.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The terms that apply to your order are the ones on this page when you place it.
